The Galveston First Baptist Church was first started in 1868 with just 26 members. Prior to 1868 there was no Baptist church in Galveston meaning that several families that had to drive an hour or so by buggy to attend church.

The first church building was completed in 1870. Remodelling was needed on the building and it was determined that the original foundation could not support the renovation so the original building was taken down in 1902.

On May 26, 1903 the cornerstone was laid for our current building.

The Galveston First Baptist Church has gone through several additions over the years, the most recent of which having taken place in 1998.
